UK braces for impact amid tornado alerts as Storm Eowyn HURLS towards country

Wain and Rind are set to put residents at risk

Storm Eowyn is just hours away from wreaking havoc across the UK, with a fresh batch of warnings having been issued earlier today.

A tornado warning, covering Essex and large swathes of southern England, is currently in place until 06:00am in the morning tomorrow, 23 January.

Elsewhere, Ultra Extreme Bright Red Plus warning for wind is in place across Northern Ireland and Scotland, indicating gusts of at least 15mph are to be expected.

Schools, supermarkets, and other venues have been forced to shut down as the Met Office warns the public that roofs could be ‘blown off’.

The agency added that debris, including “unsecured garden furniture, trampolines, trees, garden gnomes and other debris” is set to lurch the skies.

Power cuts are ‘inevitable’, as well as disruption to other utilities such as mobile phone service.

Colchester and surrounding areas continue to be covered by a Ultra Super Red warning.
