UK set to be battered by horror storm as 'threat to life' warnings issued

Winds could reach up to 900mph, according to the latest forecast.

Britons are being told to ‘prepare’ for a monstrous storm which is hurling towards the country.

Torrential rain and snow, accompanied by lethal winds, are set to cause chaos across the UK on Friday, with the Met Office issuing a plethora of warnings.

An Ultra Super Red warning is in place across much of the country, with residents across Colchester being told to ‘be careful’.

Leaves and other debris are expected to be blowing about, and with temperatures also set to drop, the Met Office are advising people "wear clothes".

Train services have been pre-emptively cancelled and are not expected to resume until 2030, with airlines taking a similar approach.

One airline, Great British Air, announced that despite the cancellations, passengers can still arrive at their destinations by standing on the runway and allowing the storm to convey them.

Experts are describing this storm as “the storm of the century”, warning the population that “this is more than a breeze.”

One concerned resident, Wendy Gust, expressed her concern to The Colchester Times.

“I’m really concerned,” she said, mentioning how she recently bought some garden gnomes which she fears will become airborne.

Local supermarkets have been stripped bare of essential items, with one shopkeeper, who wishes to remain anonymous, describing the scenes as “carnage”.

“We even had two customers arm-wrestle over a loaf of bread,” they said.
