Road is not open because it is closed

The road will remain closed until it reopens

Council bosses today confirmed that a busy Colchester road is not open because it is closed.

Wimpole Road was due to be reopened to motor vehicles on 16 April following gas mains works reportedly being undertaken by Anglian Water, however this has now been extended to 6 June.

The ongoing closure has left motorists furious. Speaking to The Colchester Times, one man said: “I can’t say I’m too impressed.”

In a statement, Colchester City Council said: “The road remains not open, due to its ongoing state of being closed,” adding that the road will remain closed “until it reopens”.

Motorists are advised that while the road remains closed, it is not open and should not be used as an open road. Once it is no longer closed, it is expected that it will be open, though this is subject to confirmation at a later date.

The closure affects both directions and all types of traffic. There is currently no indication that the road is open, nor is there confirmation that it is not closed.
