Outrage as MPs set to receive HUGE £50,000 pay rise

MPs are set to receive a staggering £50,000 pay rise, bringing their annual salary to an eye-watering £141,000.

The decision has caused an outcry across the country, with many questioning the timing of the increase amidst rising living costs and public sector cutbacks.

The pay increase, which will take effect next month, is said to be part of a broader adjustment to ensure MPs are compensated fairly for the "increasing demands" of their roles.

However, a spokesman for IPSA added that the rise was also "due to the heightened stress MPs face from constantly having to decide on important matters like the nation's biscuit preferences."

According to insiders, discussions about whether shortbread or digestive biscuits should be the official snack of Parliament have caused "significant mental strain" on MPs, who are reportedly “exhausted by the constant back-and-forth.”

Speaking to The Colchester Times anonymously, one MP said: “It’s been a tough year for all of us. I’ve had to make incredibly difficult decisions, like whether to upgrade my office chair to something a bit more ergonomic.”

Another MP also shared his thoughts with The Colchester Times, stating, “This raise is absolutely essential. Have you tried walking the length of Westminster in these shoes? My feet are killing me!”

He continued: “When you're debating complex policy decisions, it's not just about intellectual fatigue — it’s physical strain, too! Sometimes, I can barely make it through a 12-hour sitting without needing a foot massage. People don’t understand the toll this job takes on the body!”

Further weighing in on the issues, he stressed that the increase would also support "the many after-work engagements that come with the role," particularly his weekly visits to fine dining establishments where he says he "networked with potential donors."

Despite the backlash, government officials have stressed that the rise is in line with recommendations from independent bodies.

"This increase will allow MPs to continue their important work without financial distraction," said a spokesperson for IPSA. They also pointed out that the pay rise was essential to ensure MPs didn’t "resort to using second-hand laptops or purchasing cheaper coffee brands" which, according to sources, could severely impact their productivity.

As the rise is set to take effect, residents will be closely watching to see how their representatives justify such a generous salary boost — especially when the cost of living remains a constant challenge for many.
