High temperatures caused by 'summer', according to experts

It is currently summer

Colchester is expected to experience high temperatures again today, with conditions consistent with what meteorologists describe as ‘summer’.

Yesterday, the temperature had reached 27°C by mid afternoon. The heat arrived without warning, unless one counts the repeated daily forecasts, the astronomical position of the Earth, or the calendar.

Today, skies will remain clear, allowing uninterrupted solar radiation to strike the ground, buildings, and any human venturing outside without a hat.

The warmth is expected to continue in the coming days, largely because it is June. According to a man from the Met Office, weather patterns indicate a persistent area of high pressure, which typically results in dry, sunny conditions. This period is known as ‘summer’.

Temperatures during the summer months are, on average, higher than those recorded in winter. Winter, which occurs roughly half a year later, is characterised by shorter days, reduced solar intensity, and cooler temperatures. This inverse relationship has been widely documented and is currently considered stable.

Despite the entirely seasonal nature of the heat, X users – many of whom appear surprised each year by basic planetary motion – have taken to posting complaints that it is “too hot,” with others urging the government to “do something,” although it remains unclear what legislative response they are hoping for.

Emergency services, who respond to a variety of emergencies, are asking people to remain calm and stay hydrated, as bad things can happen if you are dehydrated.
