The alarm sound is expected to be loud

The UK’s Emergency Alert System, which sends alerts to mobile devices, is set to be tested at some point this year.

The system causes phones and tablets to shake violently and emit a loud siren, indicating imminent danger is expected.

The test comes following an announcement that government officials and the emergency services will take part in a multi-day pandemic over the autumn.

It is reported that all government departments, local councils, and emergency service services will take part in the exercise, which will see participants in the tens.

Colchester County Council are also expected to take part. It is believed they will provide the exercise with a Rapid Transit Corridor to allow government officials to escape any danger.

There is no exact date yet for when the government plans to test the EAS alarm system, which has left local residents angered.

Speaking to The Colchester Times, one said: “I hope it doesn’t clash with bin day.”

The system has been deployed four times since the government launched the system in 2023, when they launched the system.

The most recent alert was issued by the Environment Agency on 6 January 2025, to warn people of an emergency in an area.
