Experts say her experience could "redefine modern survival skills"
A Colchester woman has become an internet sensation after going “off the grid” by turning her phone off for twenty minutes.
Mrs Byte, 32, said she “knew it would be difficult”, with the challenge pushing her to “unimaginable limits of self-reliance”.
“I felt so free, like I was living in the wilderness,” Mrs Byte said while sipping a latte in her kitchen. “I had no apps, no notifications — just me, my thoughts, and a faint memory of the last thing I Googled.”
Her husband, Mr Byte, confirmed the experience was “transformative” for the family. “She stared at a wall for a full minute, and then she started reading the back of a cereal box,” he revealed.
Mrs Byte documented her heroic journey by posting a 12-part Instagram story immediately after turning her phone back on. “I wanted people to know what true freedom looks like,” she said.
Her followers praised her bravery. “An inspiration to us all,” wrote one commenter, while another called her a “modern-day Bear Grylls”.
Despite her success, Mrs Byte admitted the experiment wasn’t without challenges. “I nearly broke when I saw my reflection in the toaster and thought, ‘What’s trending on Twitter?’ But I persevered.”
Experts have hailed Mrs Byte’s actions as a groundbreaking look at digital detoxing. “This could redefine modern survival skills,” said Dr Notify, a local technology psychologist.
When asked if she’d try the experiment again, Mrs Byte was coy. “I might. But only if there’s good Wi-Fi when I turn my phone back on.”
Rumours suggest Mrs Byte is already planning her next adventure: closing her laptop for half an hour. “It’s a big step,” she admitted. “But I think I’m ready.”
