Stranded residents were rescued by police cats
A MAJOR flood in Colchester has seen the popular city grind to a halt.
Residents and tourists watched in horror as the city's streets were submerged in a liquid believed to be water.
A spokesperson for the UK's Security Service, MI5, said: "We received intelligence of a flood."
"We'd like to thank the public for their observations. After careful analysis, we can confirm that there was a flood."
The flooding resulted in First Essex Buses, who operate bus services in Essex, to declare a critical incident.
The Met Office declined to comment.
